IT: Information Technology.
graph of performance testing
Tags: Information Technology. Performance Testing. Software Testing. Software Validation. Web Based Software.
Situation:
The client company is a start up company in the health care information systems space. The products are Web-based software solutions for delivering employee training and managing quality records data to maintain FDA regulatory compliance.
Obstacles:
Recognized the need to perform load and performance testing in order to validate systems that will be sold to customers with possibly hundreds or thousands of users. As a start up company there are limited resources and keeping costs low is an important factor for any project.
Actions:
Researched tools for load and performance testing that are free and open source. Identified The Grinder as a tool that could run testing on Windows or Linux operating systems. Implemented the open source load and performance testing tool. Developed program scripts in Jython to exercise use case scenarios.
Results:
  • Scope: executed testing and verified that system performance was acceptable up to the maximum number of anticipated concurrent users.
  • Quality: by automating the testing, loads could be simulated far in excess of human users available for testing.
  • Cost: by using a free open source tool, no budget was required other than project management and software development time.
  • Time: deliverables were completed ahead of schedule.
